My Fair Lady Stars Bring Wide Experience To Roles

Barbara Petti, wife of Nicholas Petti, will play Eliza Doolittle in the Fort Findlay Playhouse presentation of “My Fair Lady,” which opens March 4.

Ronald Dutton will portray Henry Higgins in the play which is one of the world’s most successful musicals.

Mrs. Petti comes to the Fort Findlay Playhouse Stage with a wealth of musical background.

She started her musical endeavors at the age of 8 at the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Her father, a song writer, and conductor for a 17-piece girl orchestra in Cleveland, was Barbara’s initial exposure to music.

A WEALTH OF MUSIAL BACKGROUND

As a teenager she sang in summer stock, touring the New England states, singing in the choruses of “Showboat” and “Carousel.” 

This led to leading roles in “Fortune Teller,”‘ “Desert Flower,” “Chocolate Soldier,” and “Naughty Marietta.”

Mrs. Petti’s husband is co-owner of Fort Findlay Motor Inn, and Petti’s Alpine Village.

They have two daughters.

Ron Dutton, a Findlay native, is a former paratrooper. He graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1962, and is employed at Marathon Oil Co.

Mr. Dutton has been active in past Fort Findlay Playhouse productions. He played numerous supporting parts last year’s “Lil Abner, and in addition to singing and dancing with the ensemble, he topped performance with his portrayal of Available Jones.

MY FAIR LADY IS 15TH ANNIVERSARY SHOW

“My Fair Lady” was adapted from “Pygmalion” by George Bernard Shaw. The story centers on a language expert, Henry Higgins, who is determined to make a lady from a “gutter-snipe,” Eliza.

Such songs as “The Rain in Spain,” “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “On the Street Where You Live,” and many others have been considered some of the finest tunes to come from any musical.

“My Fair Lady” will be presented March 4 through 7, March 11 through 14, and March 18 through 21. Curtain time is 8:15 p.m., and all performances will be held at the Fort Findlay Playhouse headquarters on West Sandusky St.

Fort Findlay Playhouse Now Has Permanent Place

The Fort Findlay Playhouse now has permanent headquarters, it was announced by Charles Halterman president.

The building, located at the corner of West and Sandusky Streets, formerly the Grace Evangelical United Brethren Church was purchased by the Playhouse group and this week work is going forward in renovating and remodeling the structure for the purpose for which it will be used.

Space to be Shared with other concerns — Art League

Arrangements have been made to make facilities available t’o the Findlay Art League and representatives from this organization will officially move in Saturday.

Purchase of the new building by the Players group culminates a long search for facilities which will provide a rehearsal hall and an auditorium to serve for play productions.

Mr. Halterman stated that the building will be adequate for all types of productions. 

Much of the materials and labor are being donated and it is expected that all will be ready in time for the first production of the season in October. 

Already members of the Art League are planning a series of art courses, the first to be held Sept. 10. The four programs will dwell on materials, composition, values and light source, texture and drawing. Interested people over 18 years of age are invited to contact Mrs. Robert Morgan.

The interior designer is Page Backus.

Members of the board include in addition to President Halterman, Mrs. James Brannigan, vice-president, Mr. Michel, Mrs.Gary Brenner, and Miss Catherine Dennison. 

Soon a sign will be erected on the front of the building designating the structure as the Fort Findlay Playhouse headquarters. 

Mr. Halterman has announced that three plays, a children’s show, and a musical will be scheduled for the 1968-69 season and it is hoped that an art film will be included in the series. 

Regular Playhouse meetings are being scheduled now and the Children’s Theater meetings will resume in late September.
